Be A Mom

Fertility Options For Men

Men whose wives want to Be-A-Mom after they have had a vasectomy will find that there is many an alternative to vasectomy reversal. Vasectomy reversal is a relatively simple procedure, and the rate of vasectomy reversal success is high – although no surgical procedure succeeds 100% of the time. It is also true that while a first vasectomy reversal may not always produce the desired results, fertility may be restored on the second or third attempt. However, rather than go through the discomfort and expense of a second procedure, a man may seek an alternative to vasectomy reversal so that the woman in his life can Be-A-Mom once more.

What Happens First?

In order for her to Be-A-Mom again, some sacrifices are necessary; before the procedure, it may be necessary to refrain from all sexual activity. During the vasectomy reversal recovery period, the doctor may instruct the patient to rest for a day or two, avoid exertion (including sexual activity), wear loose clothing and apply ice packs to the area on which the vasectomy reversal was performed.

During the follow-up appointment, a vasectomy reversal doctor will order a semen analysis. The semen analysis values are an indicator of vasectomy reversal success – although of course the true indicator is when she is able to once more Be-A-Mom.

What If It Didn’t Take?

Vasectomy reversal success rates generally run from 75 to 95%. If you are among those for whom a vasectomy reversal is not initially successful, you should be aware that there are options after failed vasectomy reversal procedures. Which alternative to vasectomy reversal is appropriate for you will depend on many factors, such as whether or not this you first vasectomy reversal attempt, how long it has been since your vasectomy, your age, and your semen analysis values as determined by laboratory tests.

If you don’t wish to undergo a second procedure, many artificial insemination techniques have been used that enable women to Be-A-Mom again. All involve the collection of semen. One way this is done is by having the patient ejaculate into a specimen container. After this, it can be injected into the woman’s uterus in the usual way. Another method is for the doctor to collect semen directly from the vas deferens, which are the passages through which semen passes on its way to the urethra. However, semen collected in this manner must be injected directly into the egg.
